Containment sumps are one of your first protective defenses for pumps, piping and tank tops. These containments consist for UDC(s) & STP(s).
Containment sumps should be water tight, free of breaches and holes, making them durable against allowing product to enter the ground and environment should a leak occur.
Containment sumps serve a variety of functions:
– Containing leaks from submersible turbine pumps and piping components within the sump.
– Collecting and containing leakage from double-walled piping that enters the sumps.
– Containing spills that may occur during maintenance activities associated with components within the sumps.
– Keeping groundwater away from the components with the sumps in areas of high water tables.
– Isolating components from corrosive effects of subsurface moisture and soil.
According to the PEI/RP 900-08 manual there is a checklist that should be performed for containment sumps.
1. Any water or product removed properly
2. Sump is free of cracks, holes, bulges & other defects
3. Penetration fittings are intact and secured
PS&C can perform this check list for you. Our UST-Comp standard operating procedures performs both the visual inspection, as well as, the hydrostatic test for your sumps.
With the new Federal rules containment sump must be tested every three years if you are doing interstitial monitoring on the site.
PS&C has a fleet of small pump trucks to aid in this testing and giving you a cost savings.
This switch is an important inspection area for your station(s). This switch has the ability to disconnect all power to the submersible pumps, dispensers and all electrical components.
PS&C technicians can test the emergency shut off switches at your site for you. We will make sure they are working properly and also provide a description of the location and number of E-stop buttons on site.
Don’t wait until the crisis occurs to realize the switch does not work!
PS&C technicians can “pin-point” the problem saving you thousands of $$$ in excavation cost. This helps you in securing fast repairs and saves you down time and expense.
Our helium testers can speed up the process of your repairs by pinpointing the location of the leak.
We utilize the Mark Model Helium tester allowing us to trace and find leaks in underground storage tanks and fuel lines.
A method of leak detection where the area between the inner and outer walls of a double wall tank or piping is checked for the presence of liquid or a vacuum to determine if there is a leak.
PS&C technicians test interstitial space of your tanks or lines in accordance with the manufacturer’s regulations/recommendations and in accordance with the PEI/RP100.
Our technicians ensure that the interstitial space of your tank is tested using a 3rd party certified interstice tightness test capable of detecting a leak from the inner or outer wall of the interstice for the tank model that is installed.
Whether you have MLLD(s) or PLLD(s), PS&C technicians are certified to complete your annual testing requirement.
PS&C utilizes the Estabrooks EZY CHEK LEAK DETECTOR TESTER.
The leak detector tester is connected into the emergency valve under the dispenser. Pressure and leak rate adjustments are made to determine if the in-line leak detector and functional element are operating to the manufacturer’s specifications.
MLLD(s) and/or PLLD(s) are tested to ensure that the LD passes a 3.0 gallon per hour (GPH) test.
Leak Detector testing can be conducted in conjunction with a tank or line test eliminating additional cost for a returned trip charge!!
PS&C technicians specialize in testing your pressure or suction lines, utilizing the Estabrooks EZY CHEK PRODUCT LINE TESTER.
In addition to these generalized requirements, testing must be conducted in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements.
EZY-Chek Manual Line Leak Detector (for Rigid Pipelines) — Certification: Leak rate of 0.1 gph with PD = 98.0% and PFA = 1%.
Leak Threshold: 0.05 pgh. A pipeline system should not be declared tight if the test result indicates a loss that equals or exceeds this threshold.
– Maximum pipeline capacity of 426 gallons.
EZY-Chek Manual Line Leak Detector (for Flexible Pipelines) — Certification: Leak rate of 0.1 gph with PD = 99.8% and PFA = 0.2%.
Leak Threshold: 0.05 pgh. A pipeline system should not be declared tight if the test result indicates a loss that equals or exceeds this threshold.
– Maximum pipeline capacity of 101 gallons (example: 275 feet of 3 inch line).
UST-Comp allows you the customer to have detailed description of the type of piping, piping configuration, and the condition.
Line testing can be conducted in conjunction with a tank or leak detector test eliminating additional cost for a returned trip charge!!

Have you had an upgrade to your location? Are you having your sensor(s) tested annually?
All new and replacement UST systems (tank, piping, submersible pumps, dispensers) must be secondarily contained with interstitial monitoring.
With these new federal and state regulations, sensor testing is becoming a major part of your required annual testing requirements at your sites.
ALERT: Fire Marshals are adding this equipment to their annual inspection at facilities.
Shear Valve (Impact Valve, Crash Valve, Emergency Shutoff Valve) are a mechanical device installed at the base of a dispenser when the fuel supply piping operates under pressure. The Valve is designed to automatically shut off the flow of fuel to the dispenser in the event of a fire or severe impact.
PS&C standard operating test procedures ensure that shear valves are:
– Properly Anchored
– Properly Installed (per manufacturer’s specifications)
– Anchoring System Test – Product Arm is free to move and shut properly
– Shear Valve Trip Test – Product will not flow through when properly closed
Spill buckets are the primary source of spill containment at your fill risers. They are required to be tested tri-annually.
PS&C offers visual, hydrostatic, and vacuum testing for all makes/manufacturers.

The problem of water in tanks is a constant issue. Where did it come from? How did it get into my tank?
Leaving the water can contribute to the harmful growth of bacteria and corrosion that can damage the tanks; but the fuel itself is “DIRTY” can selling to your customers can cause issues.
If your tanks have sediment, ATG probes are “gunked” up and customers complaining of DIRTY fuel; allow our certified and experienced technicians to come out, pull a tank sample and show you what our fuel treatment service can do.
The proof is in the pictures!
With this service, we remove the water from the tank and treat the diesel/gas with cleaning additives. These additives bring all of the sludge/debris to the bottom and our technician will then pump from the bottom of the tank. While on site we also inspect all tank top openings for potential points of water intrusions and make repairs if they are equipped to do so. Below is an example of what a dirty tank looks like before and after our fuel treatment.
